KNOW ABOUT ASSAM

India is the second largest populated countries in the world. Majority of religions are found and numerous people groups are existed.

Assam is a north eastern state of India and serves as the gateway to the rest of the seven sisters’ states. Assam comprises the Brahmaputra and the Barak river valley. Assam is surrounded by six of the other seven sisters: Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Meghalaya. Assam shares international borders with Bhutan and Bangladesh. Assam is rich in culture, ethnic groups, languages/dialects spoken and literature. The economy of Assam today represents a unique juxtaposition of backwardness amidst plenty. In Assam agriculture makes the highest contribution to its domestic sectors.  Hindu religion is the largest while others minorities are Muslim, Jain, Christians, Buddhists and Sikhs. The scheduled castes and scheduled tribes constitute significant portion of the population of the State.

This state has a substantial tribal population and the differences in tribal community, linguistic, cultural and geographical complication. Therefore tribal has been largely cut-off from the mainstream of development. Increasing of economic problems in the region, separatist groups began forming along ethnic lines and demands for autonomy and sovereignty grew, resulting into fragmentation of Assam.

Persecution is also at rise because Christianity is a minority religion in Assam. Most Christian converts are poor; mostly illiterate tribal’s and laborers. 54 per cent children between five years of age and 14 years were child laborer and about 53 per cent were found to be married off before they attained age 18 years.  The children are in shocking condition in Assam.

This state has a substantial tribal population and the differences in tribal community, linguistic, cultural and geographical complication. Therefore tribal has been largely cut-off from the mainstream of development.

We are really in need of your prayer and support for this ministries. Thank you. God bless you!!
